The Lawn Care you Need to Stay Protected This Spring

Spring is finally here, and we want your yard to be prepared by the time it is in full bloom! In order to have the best lawn possible for summertime fun and outdoor festivities, you have to pre-treat your lawn before and during the spring season. Today we want to prep you on all things lawn care: the good, bad, and the ugly- aka weeds! At Four Seasons Landscape Management, we provide full service lawn care management. This blog will breakdown the four main topics of spring lawn care and why you should start treating your lawn now!

Clean Up Winter Debris to Prep For Spring Lawn Care

After a long winter, your lawn can be crowded with excess leaves, dead grass, and other debris such as tree limbs, weeds, etc. that make your lawn look dull and tired. Now is the time to do a spring clean-up! Raking up all of the debris and properly disposing of it is the first place to start. A tip is to make sure your lawn is completely dry before attempting to work on it- a soggy, wet lawn can make a mess when attempting to clean up and harder to compile your yard waste. The last step is to prune your bushes. This consists of trimming your hedges and getting rid of the dead limbs, wilting or damaged branches in order to avoid disease from spreading.

Use Fertilizer on Your Lawn for Weed and Crabgrass Control

At Four Seasons, we implement a year-long service system that will manage your lawn care throughout every season. We recommend starting in mid-March, so if you haven’t already done so, now is the time! We use Bio Green products for our lawns because they are not only top-notch for your lawn, they are human, pet, and environmentally friendly The first round of fertilizer will be used as a barrier to pre-treat your lawn before any new spring growth begins to surface. A layer of a crabgrass control product is also applied to your lawn to prevent early pop-ups. Our Bio Green liquid fertilizers provide micro and macronutrients that provide essential nutrients that your lawn needs. Another treatment will be put down mid-spring to continue to fight against weeds from sprouting up. As summer approaches, the third treatment will be fed to keep your lawn nourished and kill off any weeds that may have survived the first two rounds of treatments.

Weeds are one of the most pesky aspects of lawn care maintenance. From pulling them yourself to more and more popping up as the seasons go on, the main goal is to keep them under control and out of sight.

The Act of Mulching

Now that you have done the ground work for a beautiful, fresh lawn for spring, mulching is the next step in the lawn care process. Too much mulch is bad for your lawn but not having enough can also be just as diminishing to the appearance and longevity of it. Mulch provides moisture and temperature control to the soil, hinders weed growth, and ultimately lays out a clean slate that can be used for any sort of planting you choose to do. You don’t want to begin mulching too early in the year as this will not allow the soil thoroughly dry out, but if you wait too long to mulch the soil will become too dry too retain any moisture. Keeping your soil at an appropriate temperature and moisture level will allow the best environment for growth.
